This article was written by Kevin Liptak and
was called, “How Obama Made His Supreme Court Pick”. This article goes through
what Obama was doing when he got the news, what he did after, and how he came
to make this choice of adding Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court.
I believe that
this was honestly a mistake that Obama got to chose this Supreme Court pick
with him only having a short time left in office, I think that this would have
been a great way for our next president to start of his or hers campaign with making
a choice like this one.
This article
goes on to question was this a consensus pick or a unabashed liberal choice. Both
arguments absolutely make sense, and I think Obama defiantly wanted to get a
liberal in there before his run was over just incase a republican president was
nominated. But why wouldn’t he do that? I
would almost guarantee that if any republican president or nominee was in
office at this time they would’ve done the same thing with a conservative.
Overall this
was a pretty well written article and makes a lot of sense. It points out
arguments and good points from both sides, and leaves you to really question
what should’ve happened and why Obama made that choice. But Obama says he
believes that republicans should understand his choice and he thinks they will
eventually be happy about it, guess we’ll have to see.
