In my opinion, this is a most important article, for both men and women. Serious concerns about the Zika virus are being raised and with the Rio Olympics just six months away, the USOC (U.S. Olympic Committee) is taking measures to educate and prepare our athletes.
One of the stars of U.S. women's soccer is goalie, Hope Solo. Just this week she opened eyes with her candid comments and concerns about the virus, indicating that she has not made her mind up as to whether or not she will even attend the games.
There are several reasons that both female and male athletes are worried. It's been known for some time that the virus is spread by mosquitos, and that women that get the Zika virus are at risk of giving birth to babies with severe brain damage. However, the most recent research indicates that the virus might also be spread by sex and blood, and they have not ruled out the possibility of saliva. This means that both men and women have to take precautions against getting Zika.
The possibility of the U.S. boycotting the Olympic games is small, but should the news about Zika continue to get worse, the possibility that the U.S. will not be at the games could grow quickly.
